Life of a King Movie

TedX The Parallels of Life and Chess

Like many of us, Eugene ran into some trouble early on in life. While growing up in inner city District of Columbia, he had several encounters with the law as a juvenile and ended up serving time in a youth correctional facility and then later served time in prison as an adult. However, those times were just the beginning for Eugene.

Life of a King - Success Through Chess

While incarcerated in federal prison, Eugene used chess as a way to distract himself from the dreary routines and depressing world around him. Through the help of his mentor and friend, Eugene was able to see how his choices in life had lead him down a path he had never wanted to travel. He had not thought before he moved and had jeopardized everything he held dear.

Now as a proud father, grandfather, friend and mentor, Eugene passionately strives to teach those around him to learn to recognize that their actions have consequences before it is too late. By teaching chess to children while they are young, Eugene believes that he can help them to aspire to achieve amazing goals in life and stay out of the “Big House”.

Learning Chess Is Easy

By the end of this video, you'll have a solid foundation in board identification and be able to confidently name all the pieces on the chessboard. This knowledge will set you up for success as you embark on your chess journey, whether it's playing casual games with friends or stepping into the competitive chess arena. Stay tuned for more Chess 101 videos to level up your skills and strategy!

GET TO KNOW EUGENE

Not many people alive or deceased have accomplished enough or impacted the lives of others in a way to inspire the filming, and release of a major motion picture based on their lives. However, Eugene Brown is one of those people. His remarkable story is captured in the film “Life of a King” starring Academy Award Winner, Cuba Gooding Jr., who is playing the role of Eugene Brown.

While spending 18 years in federal prison for making the poor choice as a 20-year-old to engage in the felonious act of robbing a bank, he gained clarity while having a paradigm shift on life. In doing so, he turned his life around and made it his goal to help at-risk youth avoid the all-too-common pitfalls in urban environments. In 1991 Eugene started the Big Chair Chess Club, a non-profit organization which helped get a group of teenagers off the streets using the game of chess.

Eugene’s insight on the urban subculture and the impact it has on lives of youth is unique and profound. He shares his experiences, insights, and potential solutions to address the behaviors of youth as they relate to the urban subculture, and the limited choices that many of them face. Although the choices are limited, it does not imply that a poor choice should be made, so Mr. Brown addresses issues of accountability and self-respect which many youth often lack in todays society. Mr. Brown gives parents, educators, students, and youth concrete solutions to help elevate the lives of inner city at-risk youth in a positive direction despite the obstacles and challenges of their environment. If you are interested in having Eugene come and speak at your event or organization, you can learn more by clicking on the link below.www.chessmaneugenebrown.com/
