Location We Are Hiring For Wash DC and MD

Why Work with Big Chair Chess Club?

 

  • Competitive Pay: Base pay starts at $35/hour for new instructors, with opportunities to earn higher rates based on your experience and chess rating. Instructors with advanced ratings (including master level and above) may qualify for even higher pay tiers.
     
  • Flexible Hours: Typically 1 to 5 one-hour classes per week, usually in the afternoons.
     
  • Training Provided: No formal teaching background? No problem. We offer full training and mentorship to help you become an excellent chess instructor.
     
  • Travel-Friendly: Must have reliable transportation to get to various program sites.

What We’re Looking For

 

  • Must be 18 years or older
     
  • Must know how to play chess (you don’t need to be a champion—just love the game and have a great attitude!)
     
  • A USCF rating is a plus; higher pay is offered for higher ratings, especially at master level or above
     
  • Experience working with kids (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counselor, etc.) is a plus
     
  • Ability to teach good sportsmanship and encourage students to apply chess problem-solving to real-life situations
     
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional
     
  • Must pass a background check
     
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between program locations

What You'll Do

 

  • Conduct fun, engaging chess classes for groups of about 10-15 students
     
  • Use our proven curriculum and teaching materials to make learning chess exciting and meaningful
     
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering teamwork, resilience, and creative thinking
